Thanks to the generosity of Joan and Stanford Alexander, the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston has launched its first-ever Houston Jewish Community Security Program and hired its first Community Security director.
Alfred “Al” Tribble Jr. will begin this new position June 27.
Partnering with the Houston Federation is the Secure Community Network. Established in 2004 under the auspices of the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, SCN is the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America.
Because the Houston Federation’s security program is powered by SCN, it will have access to SCN’s national security advisors, intelligence analysts and other professionals, in addition to benefiting from SCN’s National Jewish Security Operations Command Center in Chicago. Tribble will be employed by SCN and report to both SCN regional director David Humble in Phoenix and Houston Federation CEO Renée Wizig-Barrios.
Tribble brings a wealth of experience to the position of Community Security director, following more than 27 years of service as a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His work often focused on civil rights, human trafficking and white-collar crime investigations.
Tribble is a subject-matter expert in color of law violations and hate crimes. Having served as an FBI Training Division adjunct faculty member, he has instructed hundreds of people on civil rights and human trafficking, including civilians, local police and FBI personnel.
Upon retiring from the FBI in 2018, Tribble began working as a training specialist with ADL’s Education Division in Houston. He also served as an ADL board member and is a board member of Holocaust Museum Houston.
“I am honored to take on this role with the Federation to support the safety and security of the Houston Jewish community,” said Tribble. “Making comprehensive security a priority is a significant step that will positively affect Jewish life in Houston going forward.”
Tribble will act as an expert security advisor, liaison and training coordinator for the community. Under his direction, security practices will be enacted, including, but not limited to:
• Trainings for schools, synagogues and other Jewish institutions
• Security consultations and threat assessments of our Jewish institutions
• On-hand community liaison with law enforcement for emergency events that may occur
Once Tribble begins, he will participate in several weeks of onboarding endeavors to familiarize himself with SCN and Federation practices. He then will meet with leaders from community organizations. Community town halls for information and discussion also will be scheduled.
The Federation is working in partnership with local schools, synagogues and other Jewish institutions. In communicating this announcement, the Federation sent a survey to collect more information on their needs. The Federation will work hand-in-hand with community partners as these efforts are implemented.
The Federation will continue keeping the community informed about this comprehensive security approach that necessary to keep our Jewish institutions and community members safe.
