Stand with Israel this Wednesday
For more than 10 days, Israel has been engaged in a defensive operation to halt years of rocket attacks into southern Israel from the Hamas terrorists in Gaza. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., the Houston Jewish community will join together in a service of solidarity and support at Beth Yeshurun synagogue, 4525 Beechnut St. We hope you will join your friends and neighbors in standing with Israel at this critical time.

Bring your signs, banners, friends and support for Israel! Security measures will be in effect.
As Israel defends itself from terrorist attacks in Gaza, local Arab and fringe-leftist groups organize anti-Israel demonstrations

Hundreds of Houstonians, mostly Arab and those politically aligned with the extreme left, organized a series of local demonstrations to protest Israel’s defensive airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, known as Operation Cast Lead.

Israel launched Operation Cast Lead on Dec. 27, 2008, to curtail Hamas rocket attacks against Israel, which had greatly increased since the Palestinian terrorist organization refused to extend a six-month cease-fire with Israel on Dec. 18. The surgical airstrikes targeted only Hamas terrorist infrastructure. (more)

Dodging Israel’s bombs in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza (JTA) – At street level, the buzzing from Israel’s drones is audible, often followed by loud blasts that shake the buildings. Some residents have opened their windows; others have removed them completely to keep the glass from shattering while Israeli jets pound Hamas targets in Gaza. The streets remained deserted. Shops are closed, and residents are hiding indoors. (more)
Gaza conflict: Crisis or opportunity

WASHINGTON (JTA) – Does the mini-war underway between Israel and Hamas in and around the Gaza Strip present U.S. President-elect Barack Obama’s incoming administration with a crisis or an opportunity? Israel’s aerial bombardment, the most intensive in the Gaza Strip in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reportedly has killed at least 320 people, most of them militants belonging to the terrorist group Hamas, although tens of children were reported dead in surprise attacks on the crowded strip.
